Why Japan eSIM Requires a Manual APN Setting
Japan is the one destination where most eSIMs need a manual APN (Access Point Name) setting. While other countries configure this automatically, Japan's mobile network requires you to manually enter the APN to establish a data connection. The APN you need is: vmobile.jp
Before Setting the APN: Check Data Roaming First
First confirm Data Roaming is ON for your eSIM — see our no internet fix guide for steps. Then follow the APN guide below.
How to Set the APN on iPhone (vmobile.jp)
- Go to Settings → Cellular
- Tap your travel eSIM line
- Tap Cellular Data Network
- Clear the APN field and type exactly:
vmobile.jp - Leave Username and Password blank
- Toggle Airplane Mode ON for 10 seconds, then OFF
How to Set the APN on Android (Japan)
- Settings → Mobile Network → Access Point Names
- Tap + to add a new APN
- Name: CryptoeSIM Japan · APN: vmobile.jp
- Save and select the new APN, then restart your device
Hotspot in Japan
After setting vmobile.jp, hotspot works normally on iPhone. On Android, make sure the new APN is set as active for tethering to function.
Still No Internet After Setting APN?
Make sure Data Roaming is ON, your eSIM is the default data line, and you've toggled Airplane Mode since the change. If still failing, submit a support ticket with your order number.
